We want to make information on the goings-on in Aomori more available to English speakers. We hope to use this blog to share all the exciting events, charming spots, and mouth-watering dishes of Aomori City with you lovely readers!
Aomori City can be found along the coast in the northernmost prefecture of Japan’s main island, Honshu. The name Aomori means blue forest, although it can also be translated as “green forest”; as the name suggests, Aomori is surrounded by rich gree
n forests.
We are blessed with beautiful scenery, from the verdant rolling hills and magnificent mountains to the deep blue sea waters coupled with sandy beaches. While our summers are hot and sunny, sometimes exceeding 30 °C (86°F), our winters see the city covered in a thick blanket of snow making it perfect for winter sports.
Every year we host the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri, one of Japan’s biggest festivals. It is held from the 2nd-7th August when huge floats star in parades alongside traditional music and lively dancers.
We also boast a range of delicious local dishes such as Niboshi Ramen, and are well known for our apples and gorgeous scallops!
We will be posting all kinds of videos, photos, and generally everything to do with our fine city on here, so make sure to follow to avoid missing out!
